Western Resources discovered a very serious vulnerability in the iPad 2 installed iOS 5. Any owner of a cover of Smart Cover can bypass your numeric password! ...

Here's what to do if you want to reproduce the vulnerability:
- If the numeric password is not enabled, enable it in Settings → General → Password protection;
- Lock the iPad 2 by briefly pressing the button Power;
- Press and hold Power, until a red slider off;
- Close the Smart Cover;
- Open the Smart Cover;
- Press the white button "Cancel".

Rage HD for iPad 2

Remember id Software’s hit iOS game – Rage? Well it looks like John Carmack and his boys aren’t quite done with it yet, and have offered a new update to the game so that it is now more iPad 2-friendly. The latest update to Rage HD includes some new features that make the game more worthwhile for iPad 2 users. Rage HD, now at version 1.21, features 1080p HDMI TV output, and has been recompiled for iOS 4 for improved compatibility.

In addition to making the game run better and allowing it to run on your large HD TV, there are also some changes to the gameplay. There is now the option to enable an analog thumbstick control, the ability to shake the device to activate your melee attack, and there are also some cosmetic changes as well as the usual bug fixes. The update for Rage HD is available now on the Apple App Store. If you don’t have the game yet, you can purchase it for $1.99.

Targus Versavu Keyboard Case for iPad 2

For those who would rather replace their laptops with an iPad 2, but still want a physical keyboard to type long emails, or edit substantial documents, Targus has come up with the Targus Versavu, Kayboard and Case, a variant of their original Versavu case.

Just like the original Versavu case, the exterior is made of leather (I’m not sure if it’s real leather or not), and the part that holds the iPad 2 is made of hard plastic with a leather texture in the back (the iPad “snaps” in place), and it can rotate by 90 degrees to use the iPad 2 in vertical position (portrait).

The keyboard keys are smaller than a full-size laptop QWERTY keyboard, but it’s big enough to be substantially better and faster than typing on the iPad 2 virtual keyboard. The other advantage of having an external keyboard is that it frees up screen space that the virtual keyboard would occupy. There is a mini-USB port to charge the keyboard’s battery.

The downside of having the keyboard is that it adds bulk to an otherwise ultra-thin device. Of course, you would have to compare with your current iPad case setup. If you have a super-thin case, or none at all, this will radically change the iPad 2 form factor. But if you already have a leather case, the additional bulk may not be so hard to swallow. That said, the Targus Versavu Keyboard and Case is still thicker than my Macbook Pro. Here’s a good point of reference.

Of course, some would ask “why don’t you get a laptop”? It’s a legitimate question and I would recommend someone who does not have an iPad yet to think it through. An iPad 2 owner who is contemplating getting this accessory has probably already decided that his/her lifestyle works with iPad 2, but needs a bit of keyboard love. Are you restoring to a stock apple firmware or a custom pwn firmware? Either way make sure you are in DFU mode first.

Error 1004
This is caused by a failure to match the Baseband Nonce currently in memory to the Nonce returned in the BasebandFirmware SHSH blob. This is a normal part of iPhone 4 local restores via TinyUmbrella. 1

Error 1013
Restart computer; change computer; reinstall system, if iPhone is always in restoring mode: XP users can jump from restoring mode with ibus; MAC users can use iNdependence. (usually on the iPhone with 1.0.2 firmware downgraded from 1.1.1)

Error 1014
This error is down to itunes not liking your USB ports on your computer. Use a different USB slot or a different computer if possible. That is the easiest fix!

Restart computer; change computer; reinstall system, if iPhone is always in restoring mode: XP users can jump from restoring mode with ibus; MAC users can use iNdependence. (usually on the iPhone with 1.1.1 firmware downgraded from 1.1.2) Baseband firmware on the IPSW is higher than the baseband firmware on the iPad/iPhone. 1

iTunes is too old and couldn’t read the iPhone in Recovery or DFU Mode. Please update iTunes and try it again.

Error 1644
IPSW was moved during prepare with iTunes. Try it again and don’t move the IPSW.

Error 2002
iTunes can’t connect because another program is using it or it’s disconnected during the Apple Server check.

Error 3XXX
iTunes can’t connect to gs.apple.com. Maybe Port 80 and Port 443 is blocked. Open it on your router.

Error 3002
Update to an older firmware isn’t working, because Apple is no longer handing out SHSHs for the device/firmware combination.

Error 3004
No internet connection during the firmware restore.

Error 3014
False edited hosts. The SHSH request couldn’t be completed. No connection to the Apple Server, Sauriks Server or localhost.

Error 3194
Occurs when trying to install an old firmware and Apple’s server disallows the installation. The only solution is to have SHSH backup and modify the hosts file to point to Saurik’s Cydia server where they are backed up (or localhost if you have it yourself).

Solution
* 1) First navigate to “c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\” and open the ‘hosts’ file in notepad. To do so, right click on the file and select Open With->Notepad. At the end of the document, add this string “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com”.
* 2) Now connect your iPhone to iTunes in recovery mode. To do so, first switch off your device. Then press the Home button on your handset and connect the USB cable. As soon as you connect the USB cable, the device will boot up and a “Connect To iTunes” screen will be displayed. Users can now stop pressing the Home button.
* 3) Fire up iTunes now. You will see your iPhone/iPod Touch detected in recovery mode. Now, whilst pressing the Shift key for Windows users or Alt key on the Mac platform, click on the Restore option.
* Now just select the original OS 3.1.3 and voila, you are done. Now you can again enjoy OS 3.1.3 on your iTouch device.

Error 3195
“An internal error occurred.” Missing SHSH for the firmware. Maybe the same as “This device isn’t eligible for the request build.” but with an cache error.
