How To Share you PC Net over Wifi with Phone

Guide to Share you PC Net over Wifi with Phone

Things you need:

A PC with a Wifi card (preferably PCI or router)
A Symbian S603rd ed phone with WLAN
Internet Connection (this guide is for those who are behind a NAT or switch/hub…but same steps for other users)

Steps on PC:

1. Open the properties of your Wifi Connection

2. scroll down to TCP/IP and click Properties

3. set a manual IP (something different to your internet connection, like if u have 192.x.x.x as ur internet IP then use 10.x.x.x)

4. Subnet mask will set itself automatically depending on the IP you have entered.

5. Set Default Gateway as the Default Gateway of your internet connection (look in ur connection’s Status > Support tab)

6. Set the Primary DNS as the DNS of your Internet Connection

7. Press OK

8. Now open up the Properties of your Internet Connection, goto Advanced tab and check “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection”. (it might ask that internet will share through 192.x.x.x or something like that, click yes), click OK.

Now, if you have a software for configuring the Wireless PCI Card/Router then follow these steps:

1. Open up that software, check to see if there’s an option for creating an AP (Access Point)…or changing the “mode” of your card/router to AP from Station (or Ad-hoc) mode.

2. If there is, then select Access Point mode.

If you don’t have a software for it, Open the properties of your Wifi connection again and follow these steps:

1. Goto Wireless Networks tab, check the first box if its not already checked.

2. Click Advanced button, select “Any Available Network”, and uncheck the box at the bottom, Click Close.

3. Click Add.., Type Network SSID as your desired name for this connection, Select Network Authentication as Open and Data Encryption as Disabled (or if u wanna tinker with the settings and try stuff, Data Encryption as WEP…or whichever you prefer)

4. Click OK and then OK.

5. Now Click your Wifi Connection’s icon and click View Wireless Networks, you should see the Network u just created, Connect to it.

Now the part of Configuring your phone

1. Scan for the newly created Access Point using your phone and connect to it (no prob if it gave No Web Gateway Reply or something)

2. Open Settings > Connection > Access Points > Your new access point

3. Goto Options > Advanced settings

4. Goto IPv4 Settings

5. Now set your Phone’s IP address (eg. If you set ur PC Wifi’s IP as 192.168.0.1, then set phone’s 192.168.0.2 … and so on)

6. Set Subnet Mask by checking your WiFi Connection settings on PC

7. Set Default Gateway as your PC’s WIFI IP (eg. 192.168.0.1)

8. Set the Primary DNS as the DNS of your Internet Connection, save and go back.

Ok settings are complete now and you can test it
Plus, you can open any website that u have made or ur PC if ur using a webserver.

At first, I experienced frequent Disconnections on Phone, if u experience the same, do this

1. Goto Settings > Connection > Wireless LAN > Options > Advanced Settings.

2. Disabled Automatic Configuration.

3. And Disable Power saving.

That should do it
