You are in the middle of typing a quick email, text or note and need to add a question mark, comma or period (full-stop) or an alternative symbol via the 123 option key. As a short-cut, press and hold the 123 key, then without lifting your finger, slide it to the character you require and let go. Your character will be added and you will automatically find yourself back on the virtual keyboard in letter mode.
This tip can be used to get a period (full-stop) but it is quicker to do this by pressing the space bar twice.
